We presume that everyone knows what a net is and undoubtedly at some point have had use for some kind of net whether it be fishing, on a tennis court, on a football goal, to catch butterflies, or any of the hundreds of other uses that nets have. Net suppliers manufacture nets of all kinds, and on occasion will even produce a net made to a unique specification.
That being said, such is the ingenuity of people that they will often take a net that will have been designed for one specific purpose and use it for another. This could be work related, although they will obviously need to be to carry out a safety assessment to ensure that a net used in the workplace is safe for the purposes they to wish to use it for.
More likely, people will use nets in circumstances that are not related to work, and thus are more within the realms of fun and recreation. Whilst there may still need to be some consideration to the net’s safe use, in most cases it will be fine, and thus able to be put to some use that they and others can enjoy or benefit from.
To give you an insight into the sorts of uses we are talking about, below are but 4 of the many unusual ways in which a net can be used. You will note that given the sorts of activities we are including, the net which is used certainly needs to be a larger net, such as the type used in relation to securing cargo.
Climbing Wall
Kids, and we dare say many adults too, love to climb, so a great and easy way to give them something they can have fun climbing is to use a large net and make it into a climbing wall. This can either be with the net secured against an exterior wall or if the net is big enough, it could be slung over a strong tree branch and secured with heavy duty u-nails.
Create A Play Den/Fort
Again the size of the net will determine to what extent you can do this, but a net makes a great play den or fort that kids can play in and around. Drape the net over stakes in the ground, and if you have more than one net, you can make it a larger den. Get the kids to camouflage it with branches and foliage for even more authenticity.
Homemade Hammock
If the net is strong enough and the gaps within it are not too big, then you can create a make-shift hammock by tying two corners of the net to two posts or trees, if they are close enough to each other. The main benefit of using a net is that it can support those carrying extra pounds in weight that some real hammocks with weight limits cannot.
Swing Bridge
One where adults may need to be overseeing at all times if it is to cross water, but with large or multiple nets you can create a swing bridge across a pond or stream. You might even choose to set it up so that it is across something on dry land, like a sandpit. Some tools and other materials may be needed for affixing either end securely, but once it is completed, it should be fun to cross and swing on it.
